Cooper Connolly Ruled Out Of T20I Series Against Pakistan Due To Fractured Hand Injury

Australia's cricket team faces a setback as Cooper Connolly is ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. The young all-rounder suffered a fracture in his left hand, an injury sustained during the ODI series decider.

During the third ODI on November 10 in Perth, Connolly was injured by a delivery from Mohammad Hasnain. Attempting to pull the ball away, he was struck on the second ball of the 17th over.

Despite making only his second ODI appearance, Connolly continued to face another delivery before acknowledging significant discomfort. Physios conducted a quick assessment, after which he left for scans to assess the injury's severity.

A Cricket Australia spokesperson later confirmed that Connolly had fractured his fourth metacarpal. Consequently, he will miss the T20I series against Pakistan.

Australia has not yet announced a replacement for Connolly. However, reports suggest that Josh Philippe might join the squad. Philippe is expected to bolster the team led by Josh Inglis, who recently debuted as captain in the ODI series finale.

Philippe, primarily known as a wicketkeeper-batter, can also bat at the top order. The 27-year-old has played 12 T20Is, with his last match nearly a year ago during Australia's tour of India.

Although Philippe's international record is modest with just 150 runs at a strike rate of 109.48 in T20Is, his overall T20 performance is more impressive. He has scored 2628 runs across 111 innings with a strike rate of 133.67.

The Australian squad for the T20I series includes experienced players like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa. These players are part of a team preparing for the Border Gavaskar Trophy against India.
