Charlie Cassell Breaks Rabada's ODI Debut Record With Stellar 7/21 Figures
Charlie Cassell, a debutant for Scotland, made headlines during Match 16 of the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two 2023-27 in Dundee on Monday, July 22. He shattered Kagiso Rabada's record for the best bowling figures on an ODI debut.
The 20-year-old right-arm pacer achieved remarkable figures of 7/21 in just 5.4 overs. This performance broke Rabada's nine-year-old record. The South African bowler had taken six wickets for 16 runs in eight overs against Bangladesh in his debut ODI match back in July 2015 in Mirpur.

Cassell also made history by becoming the first bowler to take two wickets with his first two deliveries in international cricket. He managed to pick three wickets in his first over without conceding a single run.
Cassell's figures of 7/21 rank as the seventh-best in ODI cricket history. Five other bowlers have taken seven wickets in an ODI match while conceding fewer than 21 runs. Chaminda Vaas of Sri Lanka tops this list with eight wickets for 19 runs against Zimbabwe in Colombo in 2001.
The impressive bowling by Cassell led to Oman being bowled out for just 91 runs in 21.4 overs. Scotland then chased down the target comfortably, reaching it in just 17.2 overs with eight wickets to spare. Cassell was named Man of the Match during the post-match presentation ceremony attended by the entire Scotland squad.
Impact on Points Table
Following this victory, Scotland climbed to third place on the seven-team points table, aiming to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa. Canada and Namibia currently hold the top two spots.
This outstanding performance by Charlie Cassell not only set new records but also significantly boosted Scotland's chances of qualifying for future tournaments.
