Champions Trophy 2025: PCB Agrees To Hybrid Model Amid India's Venue Concerns

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has agreed to a hybrid model for the ICC Champions Trophy next year. Initially planned to be held in Pakistan, the tournament will now follow this model due to India's decision not to travel there.

Reports from PTI indicate that PCB sources have confirmed their acceptance of the hybrid model to ensure the tournament remains on Pakistani soil. Both PCB and BCCI have been deliberating over this issue for several months.

PCB Accepts Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy

The Champions Trophy 2025, initially awarded to Pakistan, faces logistical and political challenges. Pakistan's stadiums are not yet ready for an international event, with little progress made towards meeting global standards. This situation has raised doubts about PCB's ability to host a successful tournament.

Internal issues in Pakistan, including PTI-led riots and governance problems, have further complicated their hosting capabilities. These factors have contributed to concerns about whether Pakistan can effectively manage such a significant event.

India's cricket team has refused to play in Pakistan due to ongoing political tensions. As a result, the hybrid model suggests India's matches will occur at a neutral venue, similar to the arrangement during the 2023 Asia Cup.

All of India's games are expected to be held in Dubai. Consequently, the group-stage match between India and Pakistan will also move to the UAE. The ICC is anticipated to make an official announcement on Sunday (December 1).

The PCB faced an ultimatum from ICC: accept the hybrid model by Saturday (November 30) or risk losing the tournament entirely. It appears that PCB has chosen to comply with these conditions.

This decision comes after threats from PCB and Pakistani officials to withdraw from the competition if India did not participate in Pakistan. The acceptance of this model aims to preserve the tournament while accommodating India's stance.
