ICC Cancels Planned Trophy Tour For Champions Trophy 2025 In Pakistan-occupied Kashmir

The ICC has reportedly cancelled the planned trophy tour of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), dealing a significant setback to hosts Pakistan. The tour, initially announced by the PCB, was to include stops in Skardu, Murree, and Muzaffarabad, all located in the disputed PoK region.

The PCB had revealed the itinerary on November 9, with plans for the tour from November 16 to 24. This initiative aimed to promote the tournament but was expected to face objections from the BCCI due to the area's sensitive geopolitical status. Acting preemptively, the ICC instructed the PCB to exclude PoK from the trophy tour.

Although the ICC had not officially approved the final plan for the trophy tour, the PCB announced its commencement on social media. "Get ready, Pakistan! The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 trophy tour kicks off in Islamabad on 16 November, also visiting scenic travel destinations like Skardu, Murree, Hunza and Muzaffarabad," read a post on X.

The trophy had already arrived in Pakistan for a nationwide tour. However, it will now proceed without visiting any contentious areas. This decision reflects ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over such regions.

The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled for February-March in Pakistan but faces uncertainty as India has refused to participate. The PCB has requested official clarification from the ICC regarding India's stance, attributing it to political tensions between both nations.

India's refusal has led to speculation about alternative arrangements. Options include a hybrid model similar to that used during the 2023 Asia Cup when some matches were held at neutral venues. The PCB has forwarded communications from the ICC about India's decision to their government and is awaiting further instructions.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has invested significantly in upgrading stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. An estimated 17 billion rupees have been allocated for preparations. The standoff between PCB and BCCI raises concerns about potential relocation or changes to the tournament format.
