Canada Secures Historic First Win Against Ireland In T20 World Cup 2024

Canada secured their first-ever T20 World Cup win with a surprising 12-run victory over Ireland on Friday, June 7.

Despite a shaky start in the power play, Canada found their rhythm when Nicholas Kirton and Shreyas Movva stepped up, scoring 49 and 37 respectively. Barry McCarthy eventually dismissed both players, finishing with figures of 2-24.

Canada's Historic T20 Win Over Ireland

Canada's innings concluded at 137-7. Ireland's chase faltered early, reaching 59-6 by the 13th over due to Canada's effective bowling.

George Dockrell (30 not out) and Mark Adair (34) led a late resurgence for Ireland. However, Jeremy Gordon's crucial wicket of Adair in the final over ensured Ireland fell short, ending at 125-7.

Ireland remains at the bottom of Group A with no points, while Canada is level with Pakistan on two points.

Scotland continued their impressive form with a five-wicket victory over Namibia on Thursday, moving them to the top of Group B.

Before this match, Canada had lost their last five men's T20Is. Previously, they had only lost four of their 23 games in this format (W18 T1). This victory marks a significant turnaround.

This is only the second time Ireland has lost their opening two games in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The last occurrence was in the 2016 edition of the tournament.
