Global T20 Canada 2024: Brampton Wolves, Montreal Tigers Off To Winning Start
Two thrilling matches at the CAA Centre in Brampton marked the second day of Global T20 Canada 2024. Defending champions Montreal Tigers and Brampton Wolves secured impressive wins to kick off their campaigns.
Australian cricket legend David Warner, who recently retired from international cricket, made a strong comeback in the tournament. Leading the Brampton Wolves, he guided them to a 59-run victory over last year's runners-up, Surrey Jaguars.

Warner, part of the inaugural GT20 Canada in 2018, expressed his joy at returning to the competition. "Done with international cricket, GT20 gave me a nice opportunity to come back, and I'm happy to be back here," Warner said.
Opening alongside Canada's Aaron Johnson (13 off 8 balls), Warner scored 15 runs off 11 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Nabi. George Munsey then took charge with a blistering 69 off 44 balls, forming a crucial 64-run partnership with Kobe Herft (13 off 10).
The Wolves reached 99 by the ninth over but lost momentum with the wickets of Herft and Munsey. However, Akhil Kumar and Nick Hobson added an unbeaten 52-run stand, pushing the total to a formidable 198 for 6. Akhil remained not out on 34 from 16 balls.
Surrey Jaguars' Struggle
The Jaguars faltered early in their chase, losing half their side for just 48 runs. Despite efforts from Shreyas Movva (41 not out) and Terrance Hinds (35 from 19), they couldn't recover and fell short.
Montreal Tigers' Strong Start
Earlier in the day, defending champions Montreal Tigers defeated Bangla Tigers Mississauga by 33 runs. Batting first, Montreal posted a solid total of 189/6 thanks to contributions from Tim Seifert (44 off 24) and Ashton Agar (41 off 29).
Chris Lynn set the tone with two sixes off David Wiese before getting out in the same over. Wiese was the pick of Bangla Tigers' bowlers with figures of 3/30.
Aayan Khan's Bowling Masterclass
Aayan Khan led Montreal's bowling attack with figures of 4/40, restricting Mississauga to 156/8. Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided some hope for Bangla Tigers with a powerful knock of 64 off 39 balls but was eventually dismissed by Agar.
The Afghan batsman's departure marked the end of Bangla Tigers' resistance as they struggled to keep up with the required run rate.
The victories for both Montreal Tigers and Brampton Wolves have set an exciting tone for Global T20 Canada 2024. Fans can look forward to more high-scoring encounters as the tournament progresses.
