Bhanuka Rajapaksa's Quickfire 82 Powers Galle Marvels In LPL 2024 Final
Galle Marvels faced early trouble after being asked to bat first in the LPL 2024 final. Jaffna Kings reduced them to 24/3 in 6.5 overs. However, middle-order batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored a blistering 82 runs off just 34 balls, helping them reach a competitive total of 184/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
The left-hander's explosive innings at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday (July 21) included eight fours and six sixes. He formed two vital partnerships: a 62-run stand off 32 balls with Tim Seifert for the fourth wicket and a crucial 72-run partnership off 30 balls with Sahan Arachchige for the fifth wicket.

Rajapaksa's performance brought back memories of the Asia Cup 2022 final, where he scored an unbeaten 71 runs off 45 balls to help Sri Lanka defeat Pakistan by 23 runs. His innings then included six fours and three sixes, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.
In the LPL 2024 season, Rajapaksa finished as the third-highest run-scorer for Galle Marvels. He amassed 236 runs in 10 matches, averaging 29.50 with an impressive strike rate of 163.88. His teammate Tim Seifert emerged as the top run-scorer of the season, being the only player to cross the 400-run mark.
Galle Marvels are aiming for their first LPL trophy and will need to be cautious against Jaffna Kings' strong batting lineup in the second innings. The Kings boast players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis—who scored a century in Qualifier 2—Rilee Rossouw, Charitha Asalanka, and Dhananjaya de Silva.
The Marvels are expected to rely heavily on their spin duo, Maheesh Theekshana and Prabath Jayasuriya, to contain Jaffna's batting prowess. Additionally, Isuru Udana and Dwaine Pretorius will play crucial roles in their bowling attack during the final.
