Bengal Announces Squad For Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 With Shami And Porel
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has revealed its squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25. The team includes seasoned players and promising new talents, aiming for a strong performance in the tournament.
Mohammed Shami, a veteran Indian fast bowler, returns to limited-overs cricket after almost a year. His recent participation in Bengal's Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh marked his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury. Shami's presence is expected to strengthen Bengal's bowling lineup significantly.

Sudip Kumar Gharami will lead the team in the SMAT, taking over from Anustup Majumder, who captained during the Ranji Trophy. The squad also features several IPL regulars like Shahbaz Ahmed and Abishek Porel. Shahbaz Ahmed is known for his all-round abilities, contributing both with bat and ball. Abishek Porel, a dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, brings valuable experience from high-pressure matches.
Shahbaz Ahmed adds depth to the team with his middle-order batting and bowling skills. Mohammed Shami aims to make a significant impact after his injury break. Abishek Porel's power-hitting at the top will be crucial for Bengal's success in the tournament.
Bengal is part of Group A along with Punjab, Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Bihar, and Rajasthan. They start their campaign against defending champions Punjab in Rajkot. The team aims to reach the knockout stages, with the final scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru.
