Rain Disrupts Bengal Pro T20 League Final: Joint Winners Announced

In the inaugural Bengal Pro T20 League final, heavy rain led to both teams sharing the title. The match between Sobisco Smashers Malda and Murshidabad Kings was abandoned due to persistent rain on Friday, June 28.

Sobisco Smashers Malda started well with Ranjot Singh Khaira and Jayojit Basu adding 29 runs for the first wicket. Khaira scored 21 runs off 16 balls before being dismissed by Irfan Aftab. This led to a slowdown in their innings.

T20 Final Rained Out: Joint Champions

After a few quiet overs, Jayojit Basu got out, followed by Writtick Chatterjee who was run out for just 13 runs due to a mix-up. Writam Porel's dismissal left Malda struggling at 70 for 5 in the final. Saurabh Singh contributed 20 runs, but Murshidabad kept taking wickets regularly. Late boundaries from Bhoirob De Sarkar and Ayan Bhattacharya helped Malda reach 116 runs in their allotted overs.

Murshidabad Kings began their innings and were at 7 without loss after the first over when rain interrupted play. The downpour continued for over two hours, making it impossible to resume the match. Consequently, both teams were declared joint winners of the tournament.

Dilshad Khan and Jeet Thakur were notable bowlers for Malda, each taking two wickets. Six of their seven bowlers maintained an economy rate of six or less per over.

The final scorecard read: Sobisco Smashers Malda: 116/8 in 20 overs (Ranjot Singh Khaira 21, Saurabh Singh 20; Jeet Thakur 2/15, Dilshad Khan 2/19). Murshidabad Kings: 7/0 in 1.1 overs (Kaushik Ghosh 6*, Aditya Purohit 1*).

The match result was officially recorded as abandoned due to rain, with both teams being announced as joint winners.
