BCCI Rejects Gautam Gambhir's Proposal For Jonty Rhodes As Fielding Coach
Just hours after Gautam Gambhir's appointment as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, BCCI has made two decisions that might not sit well with him.
Gambhir was reportedly given full autonomy to select his support staff. However, two of his recommendations have been rejected by the apex body of Indian cricket.

Gambhir suggested either Lakshmipathy Balaji or R Vinay Kumar for the role of bowling coach. Both have played alongside him at KKR. But BCCI is likely to appoint someone more accomplished for this position. Reports suggest former India pacer Zaheer Khan might be considered for the role.
Abhishek Nayar is almost certain to be one of Gambhir's deputies. However, there is fresh speculation regarding the fielding coach. Gambhir recommended South African legend Jonty Rhodes for this role. The duo worked together at Lucknow Super Giants and share a strong bond. But BCCI may not appoint Rhodes for specific reasons.
All-Indian Support Staff
BCCI prefers an all-Indian coaching staff. The team has shown significant improvement in fielding under T Dilip's guidance. BCCI is hesitant to bring in a foreign coach who might need time to adapt to new personnel.
T Dilip's Potential Retention
Although BCCI announced T Dilip's departure, he might be retained and given a new term. Dilip is highly popular among Indian players and has contributed significantly to the team's off-field success.
Dilip introduced fielding medals after matches, which motivated Indian players. Visuals from T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup show how much players enjoyed this initiative, making him a valued member of the team.
Rhodes would undoubtedly be a fantastic addition to the Indian team, but retaining Dilip could also positively impact the squad.
The decision on whether to appoint Jonty Rhodes or retain T Dilip will ultimately reflect BCCI's commitment to maintaining an all-Indian support staff while ensuring the team's continued success on the field.
