BCCI Mulls Ban On Foreign Players Exiting IPL Without Solid Reasons
Several IPL team owners are frustrated with foreign players who withdraw from the tournament after being selected in the auction. They have suggested that the BCCI should consider banning these players.
According to a Cricbuzz report, franchise managements have raised concerns about certain foreign players' lack of respect and commitment towards the IPL auction process. This issue is set to be discussed in their upcoming meeting with the BCCI on Wednesday.

Players like Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga have often withdrawn after being bought at IPL auctions. Although they cite personal issues and injuries, team owners believe low bids are the real reason for their withdrawal.
The owners have noticed a trend where foreign players avoid mega auctions but participate in mini auctions to secure higher bids. The BCCI has previously listened to these concerns from franchise representatives.
Additionally, IPL team owners want the BCCI to refrain from interfering in the appraisal process of their performing players. They seek complete autonomy over these decisions rather than having the BCCI involved.
Retention and Right-to-Match Options
Franchises also seek clarity on the number of players they can retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Reports suggest that most teams wish to retain five to six players. The reintroduction of the Right-to-Match (RTM) option is also likely to be discussed.
The meeting will address various issues, including player retention policies and RTM options, ensuring that franchises can plan effectively for future seasons.
The discussions aim to resolve ongoing concerns and improve the overall functioning of the IPL auction process, benefiting both teams and players alike.
