Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman led Bangladesh to secure the final Super 8 spot with a 21-run victory over Nepal in their last Group D match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Arnos Vale Ground.
Nepal's bowlers dominated early, reducing Bangladesh to 106 on a challenging wicket in Kingstown, St Vincent. Sompal Kami spearheaded the attack with the new ball, while captain Rohit Paudel took two crucial wickets, exploiting favourable bowling conditions.

Tanzim (4 for 7 in 4 overs) delivered the third-best bowling figures of the tournament, becoming Bangladesh's top wicket-taker. Mustafizur Rahman also impressed with 3 for 7 in his 4 overs. Shakib Al Hasan and Taskin Ahmed contributed with two and one wickets, respectively.
Nepal's Resilient Stand
For Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee (25 off 31 balls) and Kushal Malla (27 off 40 balls) shared a resilient 52-run partnership. They took the team from 26 for 5 to 78 before Mustafizur broke the stand, bringing Bangladesh back into contention.

Bangladesh's total of 106 was bolstered by an 18-run last-wicket partnership between Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed. Shakib Al Hasan was the top-scorer with 17 runs, followed by Mahmudullah and Rishad Hossain, who each scored 13 runs.
Super Eight Qualification
With this win, Bangladesh became the eighth team to qualify for the Super Eight. They will join India, Afghanistan, and Australia in Group 1 of the Super 8s and will face Australia in the opener on Thursday (June 20).
Nepal's Close Encounters
For Nepal, this match marked their second close encounter against a Test-playing nation. They narrowly missed victory against South Africa by just one run in their previous match. Despite these losses, Nepal can leave the Caribbean with pride after some commendable performances.
