Bangladesh Echoes India's Security Concerns Ahead Of Pakistan Cricket Tour

Bangladesh has expressed concerns about security in Pakistan ahead of their upcoming tour for a 2-Test series. This development might impact Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) hopes to host the Champions Trophy 2025 entirely.

Previously, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had been hesitant to send their players to Pakistan due to security issues. This reluctance was based on instructions from the Indian government.

Bangladesh Worried About Pakistan Tour

Bangladesh is scheduled to play two Tests in Pakistan, starting at Rawalpindi from 21-25 August and Karachi from 30 August-3 September. However, before their departure on 17 August, a CricBuzz report indicated that the Bangladesh government received a request from their cricket board for a security consultant during the tour.

"We are also very much concerned about the security; but after knowing everything and after getting assurance from them regarding the security, we have fixed the tour," said Jalal Yunus, Bangladesh Cricket Board's cricket operation chairman, while talking to reporters.

Jalal Yunus mentioned that despite the request for a security consultant, none of the Bangladeshi players opposed travelling to Pakistan. He highlighted that during the Asia Cup, Bangladesh received state-level security in Pakistan.

"I guess you have seen in the Asia Cup that the Bangladesh team traveled to Pakistan and they provided us state-level security and we agreed to go on this tour because they ensured us of that," said Jalal.

Impact on Champions Trophy 2025

The PCB's ambition to host the Champions Trophy 2025 might face challenges due to these security concerns. Earlier, BCCI was reportedly the only board not confirming support for Pakistan hosting next year's ICC Champions Trophy.

"At the same time, we have requested the government to give us a security consultant during the tour who will maintain communication with them at all times regarding the security issues," he added.

This situation follows BCCI's decision last year not to allow their team to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. The fresh concerns from Bangladesh add another layer of complexity for PCB’s plans.

"You might have seen in recent times that some international teams have also visited (Pakistan) and they are quite happy with the security they provided," Jalal noted.

The PCB will need to address these concerns effectively if they hope to secure full support for hosting major international tournaments like the Champions Trophy in 2025.
