Bangladesh Announce Squad For T20 World Cup 2024 Led By Najmul Hossain Shanto
Bangladesh announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in the United States and West Indies next month. Najmul Hossain Shanto, named captain of all three formats of the men's senior team earlier this year, will lead the side with pacer Taskin Ahmed serving as his deputy.
The squad includes experienced all-rounder and former skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who returned to T20I action earlier this month against Zimbabwe in the final two matches after nearly a year away from the shortest format. The announcement follows a 4-1 series win against Zimbabwe, with no real surprises as 14 players who featured in the final two matches have made the cut along with left-arm quick Shoriful Islam, who was rested in the final two games.

Apart from Shakib, the squad also includes other senior players like Litton Kumer Das, Mahmudullah Riyad, Soumya Sarkar, and Mustafizur Rahman. Shakib, Mahedi Hasan, and Mahmudullah will be the all-rounders in the side. Young quick Tanzim Hasan Sakib has earned a selection after two appearances against Zimbabwe, joining Taskin and Mustafizur in the pace bowling unit.
Leg spinner Rishad Hossain and left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam are the specialist spinners, while Jaker Ali will be the wicketkeeper option along with Litton Das. Afif Hossain Dhrubo and Hasan Mahmud will travel to the tournament as reserves.
Bangladesh are drawn in Group D alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands, and Nepal for next month's event. Their first contest will be against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 7.
