Babar Azam Maintains Lead In T20I Runs As India Struggles Against Pakistan

India and Pakistan are facing off in a T20 World Cup 2024 match on Sunday, June 9.

India, sent in to bat first by Pakistan, is struggling in the early stages. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been dismissed early in the innings.

Virat Kohli has not been able to replicate his IPL 2024 form in the T20 World Cup. The Indian batter was dismissed for just a single run against Ireland and has now departed for just four runs against Pakistan. After hitting a boundary, Kohli slashed another ball but found Usman Khan at point.

India captain Rohit Sharma, who scored an unbeaten fifty in the last match, also departed soon. He scored just 13 runs before being caught in the deep off the bowling of Shaheen Afridi.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also failed to surpass Pakistan captain Babar Azam in the T20I run-scorer list. The trio started the tournament very close to each other, with Virat Kohli having the most runs in T20Is.

Babar Azam overtook Kohli after scoring 44 against the USA and will remain so until the end of the India vs Pakistan match.

After scoring 13 runs, Rohit Sharma now has 4039 T20I runs and remains third on the list. Virat Kohli is just ahead of him, sitting in second position with 4042 runs. Pakistan captain Babar Azam remains at the top with 4067 runs and will have the opportunity to extend his lead when Pakistan bat in the match.
