Starc Responds As Australia's Win Secures England's Spot In T20 World Cup 2024
Mitchell Starc addressed the media's reaction to Josh Hazlewood's comments about England's T20 World Cup exit, stating they were exaggerated. Australia's win over Scotland on Saturday kept England's hopes alive in the tournament.
England's rain-affected victory over Namibia on Saturday meant their progression to the Super 8s depended on Australia's performance against Scotland. Australia, having already secured their place in the next round, knew a win would keep England in the competition, while a loss would see Scotland advance.

Scotland set a target of 181, aided by six dropped catches. Travis Head (68) and Marcus Stoinis (59) excelled with the bat, leading Australia to victory with two balls to spare.
Earlier in the week, Hazlewood suggested that Australia might benefit from ensuring they do not meet England later in the tournament, hinting at "dragging out" the match against Scotland. Starc clarified that these comments were made in jest.
"I think a throwaway line has been blown right out of proportion by you lot," Starc said, addressing the media. "You don't mess around with cricket and worry about other results. We're here to win games. It's international cricket."
Starc added that England being on the other side of the draw does not significantly impact Australia's next three games.

Brandon McMullen, who scored 60 off 34 balls for Scotland, including two fours and six maximums, did not question Australia's integrity.
"They're always going to put up a good fight," McMullen said. "They're never just going to roll over and let you win."
McMullen expressed satisfaction with the close game, highlighting that Scotland demonstrated their ability to compete at a high level against top players.
