Auqib Nabi Discusses Disappointment Of Missing IPL Spot Despite Stellar Domestic Performances

Auqib Nabi, a promising fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, is gaining attention in domestic cricket due to his impressive performances. Despite his achievements, he remains disappointed after being overlooked in the IPL auction. In an interview with MyKhel, Nabi discussed his journey, challenges as a cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir, and his future aspirations.

The 28-year-old pacer has played a crucial role in Jammu and Kashmir's success in the Ranji Trophy this season. He leads as the highest wicket-taking pacer with 32 wickets in five matches. Additionally, he has taken eight wickets in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Auqib Nabi's Disappointment Over IPL Auction Snub

Nabi expressed his disappointment about not being selected for the IPL. "Honestly, it feels disappointing," he said when asked about not being picked for the IPL. "I've been performing consistently in the Ranji Trophy and other formats. This season, I've been among the leading wicket-takers as a fast bowler in India. Five wickets in five matches is not easy, especially for a pacer. It's disheartening when such performances go unnoticed. The name was not even mentioned."

Despite this setback, Nabi remains optimistic about his domestic achievements. "We've played five matches so far and haven't lost a single one," he proudly shared. "We're currently second in our group, which is significant for us. The Ranji Trophy tests cricketers' skills, and our team has risen to the challenge with five different players earning 'Man of the Match' awards."

Nabi's path to becoming a cricketer was challenging due to limited infrastructure in his region. "There weren't many facilities when I started," he recalled. "We didn't have proper grounds, and cricket wasn't seen as a career option for most." However, things have improved over time.

He acknowledged that watching IPL and international cricket inspired many young people from Jammu and Kashmir to dream big. The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association has also played a vital role by enhancing facilities for players.

Fitness and Skill: The Key to Longevity

Nabi emphasises that fitness is crucial for fast bowlers alongside skill development. "For a fast bowler, both fitness and skill go hand in hand," he explained. "You might have the skill to swing the ball or bowl at pace, but without fitness, you can't deliver consistently."

He praised BCCI's player load-management initiatives that help players maintain their fitness levels by tracking workloads and monitoring injuries.

Support System and Motivation

Nabi credits his family as his biggest support system despite initial hesitations about pursuing cricket professionally instead of focusing on studies like they wanted him to do initially.

"In the beginning," Nabi shared about convincing them otherwise through resilience until they became supportive once he represented their state team successfully enough times now making them proud parents who believe wholeheartedly now more than ever before."

When asked about idols who inspire him most internationally or locally within India's own ranks too - Dale Steyn tops list followed closely behind Zaheer Khan & Jasprit Bumrah whom he admires greatly too!

Looking Ahead: "The Goal is to Keep Performing"

Nabi remains focused on improving despite missing out on IPL opportunities this year; determinedly stating how important it is not letting setbacks define one's career path entirely but rather focusing solely upon performance instead wherever possible whether playing Ranji Vijay Hazare Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments alike always giving best effort regardless outcome knowing full well results will eventually follow suit naturally over time given enough dedication perseverance resilience shown throughout journey thus far already proving testament itself alone!

Nabi's story exemplifies perseverance amidst challenges faced along way towards achieving ultimate goals set forth ahead still yet reached fully realised potential awaiting discovery soon enough perhaps someday soon indeed!
