Ashwin Seeks Elon Musk's Attention Over Journalist's Remark On Afghanistan's Cricket Victory

India's off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin tagged X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk in a post following a Pakistan journalist's unusual comment on Afghanistan's historic win over Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday.

The victory marked Afghanistan's first-ever win against Australia across all formats. Their thrilling 21-run triumph kept them in contention in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The cricketing community widely celebrated Afghanistan's significant achievement over the formidable Australians.

Ashwin reacted to the journalist's post by tagging Elon Musk and indirectly suggesting that such users should be banned from the platform. "I can't tell u what to do @elonmusk but I should certainly have the right to decide who enters my house. My timeline, my decision," he wrote on X.

Despite the widespread praise, a Pakistan journalist claimed Afghanistan could beat any team except India, suggesting Afghan players underperform against India to protect their IPL contracts. "Afghanistan can beat any team in the world except India for obvious reasons. IPL contracts are very precious," he wrote as millions celebrated Afghanistan's memorable win.

The Afghanistan cricket team has become a formidable force in recent years, regularly challenging top teams globally. In January, they pushed India into playing two Super Overs in one match and defeated New Zealand during the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.

Key players like captain Rashid Khan, spinner Noor Ahmad, pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, all-rounder Gulbadin Naib, and opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz are integral to their respective IPL teams. Rashid Khan has even captained Gujarat Titans in a few matches.
