Arshad Khan Shines In IPL 2024 Despite Lucknow Super Giants' Loss To Delhi Capitals
New Delhi, May 14: Lucknow Super Giants' all-rounder, Arshad Khan, grabbed the spotlight on Tuesday (May 14) in the ongoing IPL 2024, showcasing a stunning display of power-hitting against Delhi Capitals.
Coming in at number 8, the left-handed dynamo from Madhya Pradesh unleashed an onslaught, crafting a remarkable 25-ball fifty, his first in T20 cricket.

The 27-year-old unleashed three boundaries and five towering sixes on his way to a maiden IPL half-century. In the 18th over, bowled by Rasikh Salam, Arshad pummeled the right-arm quick for a towering six and followed it up with two consecutive doubles to reach the milestone under immense pressure. This performance eclipsed his previous best IPL score of 20*.
Despite the early dismissals of key batsmen such as Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, and Ayush Badoni in the daunting chase of 209, Nicholas Pooran's explosive 61 off 27 balls kept the Giants in contention. However, Pooran's departure at a crucial juncture left the team reeling. Arshad's valiant effort in the death overs kept hope alive, but Lucknow Super Giants fell short by 19 runs as Delhi Capitals emerged victorious.
Arshad remained unbeaten on a blistering 58 off 33 deliveries, earning widespread acclaim for his heroic innings in the lower order.
Arshad is a versatile lower-order batsman renowned for his explosive strokeplay, coupled with his utility seam bowling, making him a prized asset for any team.
His cricketing journey began in his formative years under the guidance of his father, Ashfaque, who served as a coach with the Seoni District Cricket Association. Arshad's talent quickly caught attention, earning him a spot in the Madhya Pradesh U-16 team at the tender age of 14. Three years later, he made his mark in the U-19 setup before progressing to the Under-23 squad in the 2017-18 season.
The southpaw burst onto the scene during the 2020 edition of the U-23 CK Naidu tournament, where he emerged as the tournament's top wicket-taker with 36 scalps, alongside scoring 400 runs. His stellar performance, including an impressive 86 off 54 balls against Mumbai, propelled him into the spotlight and earned him a spot in the Madhya Pradesh senior team.
Arshad's exploits didn't go unnoticed, leading to his acquisition by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 auction. However, plagued by injuries, he was sidelined for the entire season. Despite being part of the Mumbai Indians squad for the 2023 edition, he was released ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Lucknow Super Giants secured his services for the IPL 2024 season, reinforcing their lineup with his explosive batting prowess at a bargain price of Rs 20 lakhs.
