Anrich Nortje Makes Comeback To Proteas For T20 World Cup

Anrich Nortje has made a significant return to the South African cricket team, being named in the 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Despite not playing for the national team for nine months, Nortje's performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has earned him a spot. Under the leadership of Aiden Markram, the Proteas are gearing up for a challenging campaign, with Nortje's inclusion highlighting the team's strategy to leverage pace as a key asset.

South Africa's coach, Rob Walter, expressed confidence in Nortje's abilities, particularly noting his exceptional speed. "It's good to see that his speed is up. There's not many guys who can bowl 150kph and he can. Pace is an X-factor," Walter remarked. Despite Nortje's high economy rate of 13.36 runs per over in the IPL, his capability to deliver fast balls has set him apart.

Nortje Back in Proteas' T20 Squad

Quinton de Kock, despite recent form concerns and no longer being under contract with Cricket South Africa (CSA), has secured his place in the squad due to his proven track record. The team also sees potential debutants Ottniel Baartman and Ryan Rickelton, who have been recognized for their performances in the domestic SA20 league.

The Proteas are looking to improve on their previous World Cup outing, where they did not advance beyond the Super 12 stage. With a blend of seasoned players and new talent, South Africa aims to make a strong impact at the tournament starting on June 3 against Sri Lanka, following a warm-up series against West Indies.

The squad led by Aiden Markram includes: Ottniel Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Tristan Stubbs.

As South Africa prepares for the T20 World Cup, the team's composition reflects a strategic mix of pace and experience. With players like Nortje bringing exceptional speed and others like de Kock providing seasoned expertise, the Proteas are poised for a compelling performance on the global stage. Fans and supporters are encouraged to rally behind the squad as they embark on their quest for glory.
