IPL 2024: Aiden Markram Under Fire For Lacklustre Performance In Qualifier 2

SRH vs RR: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are facing Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2024. The match is currently being held at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bowl first, considering the conditions and the Chepauk wicket's behaviour in the latter half of the innings. SRH started well but lost three wickets within the powerplay overs.

Markram Criticised in IPL Qualifier

Trent Boult was instrumental in dismantling SRH's top order, dismissing Abhishek Sharma (12), Rahul Tripathi (37), and Aiden Markram (1). The cricket fraternity's attention turned towards Aiden Markram, who has struggled this season.

The former SRH skipper has had a poor season, scoring just 201 runs in 11 matches at an average of 20.5 and a strike rate of 122.5. Apart from a match-winning fifty against CSK, he hasn't made a significant impact with the bat.

Consequently, Markram was not a regular feature for SRH this season. Upon his return to the playing XI, he failed to make an impression, falling to Boult's delivery on the last ball of the fifth over. Markram edged a length ball outside off to Yuzvendra Chahal at short third man.

Following his dismissal, several users took to X (formerly Twitter) to criticise Markram for his poor performance in Qualifier 2.

The majority of SRH supporters wanted Glenn Phillips to play instead. The Kiwi player could have been a better option than Markram, who has struggled this season.

This user believes Markram has already played his last match for the Orange army.
