Afghanistan Secures Commanding Win Against Uganda In T20 World Cup 2024

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Fazalhaq Farooqi excelled as Afghanistan triumphed over Uganda by 125 runs in match 5 of the T20 World Cup on Tuesday, June 4, in Providence, Guyana.

Gurbaz (76 off 45 balls) and Zadran (70 off 46 balls) propelled Afghanistan to a formidable 183/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Farooqi then wreaked havoc with the ball, taking 5 for 9 to dismiss Uganda for just 58 runs.

Naveen-ul-Haq (2 for 4) and Rashid Khan (2 for 12) also contributed with two wickets each, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed the remaining wicket. For Uganda, only Riazat Ali Shah (11 off 34 balls) and Robinson Obuya (14 off 25 balls) reached double figures.

Farooqi's victims included Ronak Patel, Roger Mukasa, Riazat Ali Shah, Robinson Obuya, and skipper Brian Masaba. The left-arm pacer was on a hat-trick twice during his spell but did not achieve it. However, he did take three wickets in one over to finish with the fourth-best figures in T20 World Cup history.
