Abhishek Sharma Likely To Debut For India In Zimbabwe T20I Series
Abhishek Sharma, an all-rounder from Punjab, has been called up to the senior Indian team for the five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe. The series begins on Saturday, July 6, in Harare.
The 23-year-old's impressive performance in the IPL 2024 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad earned him a spot in the Indian squad. He joined the team that flew to Zimbabwe on Monday night, July 1.

Abhishek scored 484 runs in 16 innings during SRH's journey to the IPL 2024 Final. His strike rate was an astounding 204.21, and he hit three fifties along with 42 sixes and 36 fours throughout the season.
Despite his selection, Abhishek's chances of playing might be slim due to the presence of established openers like Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, a delay in the departure of India's T20 World Cup-winning team from the Caribbean could boost his chances.
Jaiswal is set to miss the first two matches in Zimbabwe along with Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube. This opens up opportunities for Abhishek and Riyan Parag, who also received their first national call-ups.
Sai Sudharasan, Harshit Rana, and Jitesh Sharma have been named as replacements for Jaiswal, Dube, and Samson. Although Sudharsan can open, Abhishek might get the opening slot alongside Gaikwad with Gill batting at number three in the first two games.
Abhishek's left-arm orthodox bowling adds another dimension to his game. With Axar Patel absent and Ravindra Jadeja recently retired, his versatility could secure him a place in the playing XI.
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif expressed his excitement about seeing Abhishek play for India soon. Kaif noted that Abhishek has worked hard with cricket legend Yuvraj Singh over the past few years.

Abhishek's stellar IPL season followed an excellent domestic season with Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. He was the second-highest run-getter with 485 runs in ten innings.
This consistent performance across formats led to his well-deserved call-up to the national team. His inclusion brings hope for a promising debut series against Zimbabwe.
The upcoming series will be crucial for Abhishek as he aims to make a mark on international cricket. Fans eagerly await his potential debut and contributions to Team India.
