Abhishek Sharma Redeems With Swift Century In Second T20I Against Zimbabwe

Abhishek Sharma made a remarkable comeback from his debut duck by scoring a 46-ball century against Zimbabwe in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club on July 7. This performance marked his arrival in international cricket.

The day after his four-ball duck in his first match, Abhishek opened his account with a six, similar to the shot that got him out in the first T20I. This time, however, his pull off Brian Bennet cleared the ropes at deep square.

Despite losing opening partner and captain Shubman Gill early, Abhishek steadied the innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad. He then launched an aggressive attack on Zimbabwe's bowlers.

Abhishek reached his maiden fifty in just 33 balls and then accelerated to his century within the next 13 balls. He scored 26 runs off a single over bowled by Dion Myers. His innings included eight sixes and seven fours, although he had some luck with dropped catches.

The young cricketer was dismissed immediately after reaching his century but set several records with his quick knock. He now holds the record for the fewest innings taken to score a T20I hundred, surpassing Deepak Hooda's record of three innings.

This was also the joint third-fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter alongside Rahul. Rohit Sharma still holds the fastest record with a century in just 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017. Suryakumar Yadav is second with a 45-ball century.

Abhishek earned his call-up after showcasing an aggressive style filled with maximums during IPL 2024 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. His six-hitting prowess continued on the international stage.

Following Abhishek's departure, Rinku Singh, who also scored a duck in the first T20I, made an unbeaten cameo of 32 from just 18 balls. This helped India surpass the 200-run mark.

Abhishek shared a crucial partnership of 137 runs with Gaikwad, who also scored a half-century. This partnership played a significant role in India's commanding total.
