Abhishek Sharma Reveals His Father As The Mentor Behind His Bowling Skills In IPL 2024
Abhishek Sharma has made a notable impact in the IPL 2024 with his batting, but it was his bowling skills that shone against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 match on Friday (May 24).
Although Abhishek scored only 12 runs in 5 balls, he compensated with an impressive bowling performance during Rajasthan's run chase. The 23-year-old bowled his full quota of four overs, conceding just 24 runs and taking two crucial wickets.

Sharma dismissed RR captain Sanju Samson and later took the wicket of Shimron Hetmyer at a pivotal moment in the match. Known primarily for his batting, the Punjab-born player demonstrated his proficiency with left-arm spin, confounding the RR batters.
Mentored by former India star Yuvraj Singh, Sharma credits Yuvraj for significantly influencing his career. However, when it comes to bowling, Abhishek attributes his skills to his father. "I've been working on my batting which has gone well for the last two years. But I've been working on my bowling with my dad. So special mention to my dad," Abhishek said after the match.
Sharma played a key role in Punjab's victorious Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign and attributes his current form to the momentum gained from that domestic tournament. "It came from Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. We won the Trophy for Punjab and the momentum came from there. I had confidence for this season from the conversations in the meetings where the batters were given freedom," he added.
Following their victory in Qualifier 2, SRH will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 Final on Sunday (May 26).
