Year Of Community Initiative By Emirates Foundation Boosts Volunteer Participation Across The UAE

The Year of Community initiative, in partnership with Emirates Foundation, is enhancing volunteer opportunities and encouraging civic involvement throughout the UAE. Operating under the slogan "Hand in Hand," this collaboration has significantly boosted volunteer numbers and hours since early 2025. The financial value of these efforts has surpassed AED124 million, marking a 14.7 percent rise from the previous year.

Mohamed Al Hosani, Director of Programmes at Emirates Foundation, noted a 22.7 percent increase in volunteers on the Volunteers.ae platform compared to 2024. He stated, "The dedication and enthusiasm of the volunteers highlight their genuine desire to give back to society, and our partnership with the Year of Community allows us to expand our impact in tangible ways."

Emirates Foundation Enhances Volunteer Engagement in UAE

In response to growing public interest, Emirates Foundation plans to introduce new initiatives. These will enable individuals to contribute their time and skills to community service. This aligns with the Year of Community's priorities and aims for a more focused approach to volunteering.

The foundation's key programmes include Takatof, which offers structured volunteering across sectors; Sanid, which trains volunteers for emergency responses; and Volunteers.ae, a national platform for those considering the UAE their home.

Volunteer Salem Khaled bin Bishr shared his journey: "I began my volunteering journey by participating in university events, and today volunteering has become a part of my lifestyle. It enhances my skills and broadens my horizons." Meanwhile, Mohammed Al Balooshi reflected on building a school in Nepal: "Small individual contributions can make a big difference in the lives of others."

Community Programmes Beyond Volunteering

Apart from volunteering initiatives, Emirates Foundation runs several community programmes. Dawamee supports Emirati employment in the private sector through flexible job opportunities. Ne’ma addresses food waste by redistributing surplus food. Active Abu Dhabi promotes both physical and mental well-being.

Rauda Al Falasi, Project Manager of the Year of Community, remarked on their collaboration: "The slogan ‘Hand in Hand’ reflects the spirit of the UAE in compassion and unity. Volunteering is a driving force in building a more cohesive and sustainable society, and we are proud to partner with Emirates Foundation to realise this ambitious vision."
