Abu Dhabi: XRG And bp Form New Joint Venture Arcius Energy To Enhance Natural Gas Operations
XRG and bp have finalised their joint venture, Arcius Energy, an international natural gas platform. This venture, announced in February 2024, is owned 51% by bp and 49% by XRG, ADNOC's energy investment arm. The collaboration aims to develop a competitive gas portfolio by leveraging both companies' technical expertise and successful development histories.
Arcius Energy will initially focus on operations in Egypt. It includes interests from bp in two development concessions and exploration agreements. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Executive Chairman of XRG, expressed enthusiasm about this new phase in their partnership with bp. He stated that the venture aligns with XRG's goals to transform energy systems and create a large-scale integrated gas and chemicals portfolio.

The leadership team for Arcius Energy has been established with Naser Saif Al Yafei as Chief Executive Officer and Katerina Papalexandri as Chief Financial Officer. These appointments bring extensive experience from ADNOC and bp into the new venture. Their expertise is expected to drive the company's growth in the energy sector.
Murray Auchincloss, Chief Executive of bp, highlighted the strengths of this partnership. "Arcius Energy brings together the strengths of our two companies to create a dynamic new platform for international growth in natural gas in the region," he said. Auchincloss also noted the long-standing successful collaboration with ADNOC, now represented by XRG, which spans over five decades.
Dr. Al Jaber emphasised that this partnership will facilitate a transition to lower-carbon fuels. He mentioned that it aims to provide smarter, cleaner, and more affordable energy solutions for Egypt and globally. This initiative is part of XRG's broader strategy to meet increasing global energy demands sustainably.
Auchincloss added that bp's 60 years of technical expertise in Egypt positions them well to seize new opportunities in the region. The partnership aims to build a highly competitive gas portfolio by capitalising on Egypt's strategic location as a hub for natural gas development.
The formation of Arcius Energy marks a significant step forward for both companies as they seek to expand their influence in the international natural gas market while addressing global energy challenges through innovative solutions.
