Xposure’s 4th Conservation Summit Highlights Migration’s Crucial Role In Ecosystems
The 9th Xposure International Photography Festival will host its 4th Conservation Summit on 24 February. This event, themed ‘Migration and Ecosystem Impact,’ is part of Xposure 2025. It will bring together photographers, conservationists, scientists, and advocates to discuss migration's essential role in ecological balance and species survival across various environments.
Organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the festival runs from 20-26 February. It aims to highlight the resilience of migratory species facing challenges like climate change and habitat destruction. Through talks and imagery, it will explore how these factors affect biodiversity.

Tariq Saeed Allay, Director-General of SGMB, emphasised photography's role in addressing environmental issues. He stated, "Through photography, we turn the lens on environmental crises, transforming them into global conversations. Photography and films are more than a tool for documenting; they are a catalyst for raising awareness and change."
He further added that Xposure uses visual storytelling to confront urgent environmental challenges. The festival invites conservationists, scientists, photographers, filmmakers, and the public to engage in global dialogue aimed at driving change.
The summit will feature three significant talks focusing on migration across ecosystems. Gerrit Vyn will present "The Global Life of Shorebirds," showcasing extraordinary avian migrations. Jaime Rojo’s "Saving the Monarchs" will delve into monarch butterflies' decline due to deforestation and climate change.
Ralph Pace will discuss ocean migrations in "The Bigger Picture: Conservation Implications of Ocean Migrations." His talk will highlight how these migrations support marine ecosystems and aid climate mitigation efforts.
Ministerial Support for Environmental Awareness
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the summit. She praised the festival's role in using photography as a tool for addressing environmental challenges. The Minister noted that hosting such events supports conservation efforts and raises awareness about endangered species.
She remarked, "The hosting of a conservation summit as part of Xposure is a remarkable addition to the UAE's efforts in raising awareness about living organisms, particularly those at risk of extinction, to support their conservation and highlight the role of migration in sustaining ecosystems."
A Platform for Global Change
Xposure 2025 provides an opportunity to engage with global leaders in environmental preservation. The Conservation Summit serves as a platform for meaningful discussions and actionable solutions to protect vulnerable ecosystems worldwide.
This initiative underscores the collective responsibility to protect nature and achieve environmental balance through increased awareness and sustainable practices.
