Xposure 2025 Film Festival Unveils 320 Compelling Stories For UAE Audiences
The Xposure International Photography Festival 2025 has introduced a comprehensive cinematic programme, showcasing 320 films over seven days at its new location in Aljada, Sharjah. Running until February 26, the festival offers a diverse array of narratives, award-winning documentaries, and visually captivating short films. Screenings are scheduled daily from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM, providing audiences with an engaging storytelling experience.
This year's selection features globally recognised films that redefine storytelling and cinematography. A highlight is "The Neighborhood Storyteller," a touching documentary by Mexican filmmaker Alejandra Alcala. It follows a Syrian woman's mission to empower teenage girls through reading. Another notable film is "Iraq’s Invisible Beauty," an intimate portrayal of Latif Al Ani, Iraq’s renowned photographer. Directed by Jurgen Buedts and Sahim Omar Kalifa, it was nominated for Best Documentary at the Ensors 2024.

Xposure 2025 continues to support new voices in cinema by featuring films from the FANN Media Discovery Platform and Sharjah Youth. Notable selections from FANN include "Noor," "Shadow of a Star," "The Sack," and "Umm Salama The Matchmaker." Meanwhile, Sharjah Youth presents "Maliha," "Nagham," and "The Heart of a Camel Lover," offering fresh perspectives from the region’s emerging filmmakers.
For ocean enthusiasts, "Deep Hope - Le dernier refuge" provides an unprecedented glimpse into unexplored underwater landscapes. Additionally, Vincent Pérazio's "Under The Pole – 3 Days Beneath the Sea" takes viewers into Moorea’s coral reefs with deep-sea explorers and scientists. This film earned the Originality Award at the Galathea International Marine Film Festival.
Among other standout films is "Sikat Subar – A Hidden Colorful Feather," an award-winning documentary by Diogo Pessoa de Andrade. It explores Timor-Leste's complex social fabric through rooster fighting traditions. Closer to home, Maitha Alawadi's film, "In the Union of Our Emirates: A Future Forged by History," intertwines a family’s legacy with the UAE’s rise, marking the nation’s 50th anniversary.
