WTM Spotlight Riyadh 2026 To Highlight Saudi Arabia's Expanding Global Tourism Sector
Saudi Arabia is set to host the inaugural WTM Spotlight event in Riyadh from September 29 to October 1, 2026. This gathering will bring together global travel leaders to discuss the Kingdom's burgeoning tourism sector. The event will be held at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Convention Centre, aligning with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals.
The Kingdom aims for tourism to contribute 10% of its GDP by 2030. The WTM Spotlight Riyadh will feature over 450 exhibitors and attract more than 6,500 visitors, including 150 international hosted buyers. This platform will facilitate discussions on various aspects of Saudi tourism, such as mobility, hospitality, technology, sustainability, and visitor experiences.

Saudi Arabia's Tourism Growth
Saudi Arabia's tourism industry is expanding rapidly due to significant government investment and a diversification strategy. The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) predicts that by 2025, the sector will contribute over $119 billion to the economy, representing more than 10% of GDP and supporting around 2.7 million jobs.
The Ministry of Tourism recently reported record-breaking results for the "Saudi Summer" programme in 2025. This initiative attracted over 32 million visitors, marking a 26% increase from the previous year. Tourist spending during this period reached SAR53.2 billion ($14.2 billion), showing a year-on-year growth of 15%.
Focus on Aviation and Outbound Markets
Aviation plays a crucial role in Saudi Arabia's tourism strategy. The national plan aims to expand direct air routes from 100 to 250 destinations and triple passenger capacity to 330 million annually by 2030. Projects like Riyadh Air and King Salman International Airport are pivotal in enhancing connectivity.
WTM Spotlight Riyadh will also highlight the influence of Saudi travellers on global markets. According to the ATM Travel Trends Report 2025, Middle East residents account for about 10% of global outbound travel despite being less than 5% of the population. Saudi travellers are among the highest spenders globally, averaging $4,800 per trip.
Investment Opportunities and Cultural Exchange
The event offers international destinations, airlines, hoteliers, and travel providers direct access to one of the world's most valuable outbound markets. It connects them with Saudi buyers eager for authentic luxury experiences. Outbound spending from Saudi Arabia is projected to reach $47.8 billion by 2032.
"WTM Spotlight Riyadh will reflect the ambition and scale of the Kingdom's tourism evolution," said Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME at Arabian Travel Market and WTM Spotlight Riyadh. "It will bring together Saudi and global travel leaders to share knowledge and forge partnerships."
Technology and Innovation in Tourism
The event aligns with Vision 2030's focus on technology and innovation in tourism. The ATM Travel Trends Report projects that total tourism expenditure in the Middle East could reach $350 billion by 2030 due to digital transformation and regional collaboration.
WTM Spotlight Riyadh will explore how technology is reshaping visitor experiences in Saudi Arabia and beyond. Discussions will cover how investment and sustainability are influencing future tourism trends.
Hospitality Sector Expansion
Saudi Arabia's hospitality industry is growing rapidly to meet increasing demand from both domestic and international tourists. The Ministry of Tourism reported an impressive year-on-year increase of 89% in licensed hotels, resorts, and guesthouses as of early 2025.
"WTM Spotlight Riyadh is designed to create meaningful connections that drive the Kingdom's tourism ambitions forward," added Curtis. "It will showcase Saudi Arabia's leadership in innovation, sustainability, and investment."
The event coincides with Riyadh Season, an annual festival under Vision 2030's Quality of Life Programme. Attendees can experience Saudi Arabia's vibrant cultural calendar during their visit.
