World Governments Summit And PwC Launch Report On Enhancing Healthcare Efficiency Through Value-Based Care

The World Governments Summit Organisation, in partnership with PwC, has introduced a strategic report titled "Transitioning to Value-Based Care (VBC)". This report examines how healthcare systems can improve by moving from traditional volume-based models to those prioritising value and real health outcomes. This shift is crucial as global healthcare systems grapple with rising costs, an ageing population, and increasing chronic diseases.

The report highlights the necessity of focusing on patient outcomes and experiences as central to healthcare delivery. It emphasises that aligning incentives between providers and insurers is vital for reducing waste and concentrating resources on creating tangible value for patients and societies. The report also notes that healthcare spending in many countries is outpacing GDP growth, prompting a reevaluation of system structures.

New Report on Value-Based Care Efficiency

Drawing insights from North America and Europe, the report demonstrates how Value-Based Care models have improved efficiency and care quality. Although new to the Gulf region, these models show promise for addressing local healthcare needs effectively. The report suggests three main strategies for enhancing government efficiency in healthcare: aligning financial incentives, developing accurate outcome measurement tools, and setting clear strategic priorities for adopting the model in GCC countries.

Reem Baggash, Deputy Managing Director for Strategy at the World Governments Summit Organisation, stated that highlighting Value-Based Care is part of ongoing strategic studies with international partners. These studies aim to help governments create efficient and equitable systems ready for future challenges. She noted that the report offers innovative solutions to balance quality, cost, and sustainability while modernising health systems.

Ahmed Faiyaz from PwC Middle East remarked on the GCC's progress in value-driven healthcare transformation. Initiatives like Dubai’s Ejadah programme aim to enhance care across 30 priority areas by 2025. Abu Dhabi's ambulatory care payment bundles and Saudi Arabia's innovative payment models are foundational steps towards an outcomes-focused system supporting care providers effectively.

The report also explores trends and challenges facing these models, stressing success factors such as high-quality health data alignment with GCC government priorities. It provides actionable recommendations for leaders, including developing standardised measurement indicators like CROMs and PROMs, integrating health data, and aligning financing models to ensure sustainability.

Future Healthcare Vision

The World Governments Summit Organisation serves as a global platform dedicated to shaping future governance by analysing trends, challenges, and opportunities worldwide. It showcases innovations to inspire government innovation in tackling future challenges. The report offers a practical vision for transforming current healthcare challenges into opportunities for modernisation.

Faiyaz added that with continued investment in digital infrastructure and cross-sector collaboration, the GCC can lead globally in accessible, modern healthcare. He stated: "The GCC has laid the foundation for value-driven healthcare transformation... With continued investment... the region is well-positioned to lead." This approach ensures fairness in access while delivering high-quality care efficiently.
