The Future of Malaysia's Digital Economy: Findings from the World AI Show

The World AI Show in Malaysia, organised by Trescon, concluded successfully at DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur. The event attracted over 1,500 business leaders, policymakers, investors, and innovators. It served as a key platform for AI collaboration in Malaysia, bringing together public and private stakeholders dedicated to enhancing the nation's digital economy.

The summit began with a welcome address from Trescon. Attendees then engaged in sessions that explored AI's transformative impact on Malaysia's industries.

Highlights from World AI Show Malaysia Day 1

A notable session featured Ts. Dr. Rusnita Isnin Hamdan from Jabatan Digital Negara and Budiman Bujang from Johor Corporation discussing "National AI Strategy & Digital Government: Public-Private Collaboration," moderated by Ow Yung Shen of Boston Consulting Group.

Satpal Singh from PLUS Malaysia presented on "AI for Good: Empowering Sustainability Through AI." This was followed by Taylor Chan of Datadog and Shanmuga Sunthar Muniandy from Denodo sharing insights on creating secure and trustworthy AI infrastructure. Another session focused on "AI's Growing Impact on Cyber Resilience," featuring Stephanie Liew from BAT APMEA, Suresh Sankaran Srinivasan of Axiata Group Berhad, and Lee Li Foon from AHAM Asset Management Berhad, moderated by Ekneswaran Matandor of OC Global Technology Sdn Bhd.

In another discussion, SK Joo of Senheng Electric, Aaron Kee from CARSOME Group, Sina Manavi of DHL IT Shared Services, and Mohd Hanapi Bisri from Petra Energy explored how AI acts as a catalyst for business reinvention. Jamie Tan from JLL Malaysia moderated this session.

Budiman Bujang returned to deliver a keynote on "AI-First Data Ecosystems." The day concluded with a panel discussion titled "Data Infrastructure & Interconnectivity: The Backbone of Scalable AI," featuring leaders from Orsted, JLL Malaysia, and MIDA. These discussions highlighted the importance of robust data systems in supporting scalable AI solutions.

Participants also enjoyed AI-powered networking opportunities, interactive exhibitions, and exclusive one-on-one meetings throughout the venue. This created an atmosphere ripe for collaboration and opportunity among attendees.

As anticipation builds for Day 2 on 29 October 2025, attendees look forward to a landmark fireside chat with Shamsul Izhan Bin Abdul Majid, Head of the National AI Office.

Moderated by Adrian Chew from EY, the session is titled "Malaysia's AI Mandate: Turning National Vision into Industry Action." Additionally, the FutureTech World Cup will see emerging startups pitching transformative solutions to investors and technology leaders.
