WAKO World Kickboxing Championship For Seniors And Masters Opens In Abu Dhabi With 2,000 Athletes

The WAKO World Kickboxing Championship for Seniors and Masters began with a grand ceremony in Abu Dhabi. This event, hosted outside Europe for the first time, brought together 2,000 athletes from 150 nations. Organised by the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation alongside the World Association for Kickboxing Organisations, it marked a significant moment for the Middle East.

Delegations were warmly received at ADNEC Abu Dhabi, where a festive atmosphere highlighted the UAE's reputation for hosting major international sports events. The opening featured the UAE national anthem and a visual presentation showcasing the nation's progress. An artistic performance symbolising strength and unity set the stage for speeches from key federation figures.

WAKO Championship Opens in Abu Dhabi

Abdullah Saeed Al Neyadi, Vice President of the International Muay Thai Federation and President of both Asian and Arab Muay Thai Federations, emphasised the UAE's global sporting status. He noted that hosting this championship is an important milestone internationally. The participation of 150 countries and nearly 2,000 athletes underscores the global sports community’s trust in the UAE.

Roy Baker, President of the World Association for Kickboxing Organizations, commended Abu Dhabi's exceptional organisation. He remarked that this edition is WAKO’s largest ever and represents a crucial step in promoting kickboxing worldwide.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council; Nasser Al Tamimi, Secretary-General of the UAE Judo Federation; members of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation Board of Directors; national federation presidents; and international guests.

The parade of nations followed these speeches, officially opening the championship. This event not only showcased athletic prowess but also reinforced Abu Dhabi’s capability to host large-scale international competitions.

The successful commencement of this championship reflects positively on Abu Dhabi’s ability to organise such prestigious events. It also highlights its growing influence in the global sports arena.
