University Of Sharjah Partners With UAE Space Agency To Advance Space Research And Technology

The University of Sharjah (UoS) and the UAE Space Agency have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on space science, research, technology, and applications. This partnership aims to support the UAE's space strategy. The MoU was signed by Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy from UoS and Salem Butti Al Qubaisi from the UAE Space Agency at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Science, and Technology (SAASST).

Prof. Al Naimiy emphasised that this collaboration will significantly contribute to the UAE's strategic goals in the space sector. It aims to enhance research and innovation, strengthening scientific research infrastructure for both local and international communities. The focus is on developing effective contributions aligned with national directions.

The MoU outlines plans to advance research and development (R&D) within the space sector. It includes identifying mutual interest projects, promoting national space initiatives, and enhancing space economic zones. Additionally, it seeks to improve space laboratories through collaborative efforts between UoS and the Space Agency.

A key aspect of this agreement is the sharing of existing space facilities at UoS. This initiative aims to raise awareness about potential risks in space projects while maximising resource utilisation. The collaboration is expected to foster a more robust environment for scientific exploration and technological advancement.

Salem Butti Al Qubaisi stated, "The collaboration between academic institutions and specialised entities within the country opens new horizons towards developing innovative and sustainable solutions for future challenges in the national space sector and various other sectors." He highlighted that this partnership reflects a strong commitment to enhancing the UAE's space innovation ecosystem.

Al Qubaisi further added that signing the MoU with UoS supports national strategies aimed at transitioning into a sustainable knowledge-based economy. It also facilitates scientific research and development of advanced technologies contributing to comprehensive growth over the next fifty years.
