UAEU Hosts Inaugural International Conference On Climate Action And Sustainability In October 2025

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) hosted the inaugural International Conference on Climate Action and Sustainability (ICCAS 2025) from 7th to 10th October 2025. Held in Al Ain, this significant global event gathered over 200 experts, policymakers, researchers, and students worldwide. The conference aimed to share insights, present research findings, and develop innovative solutions for climate change and sustainable development challenges.

In his opening remarks, Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of UAEU, welcomed the attendees. He emphasised the UAE's longstanding dedication to sustainability, inspired by the vision of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. "Today, we continue a journey that carries forward the wisdom and vision of the UAE's Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan," he said. "Sheikh Zayed understood long before climate change became a global concern that the environment is not a resource to be exploited, but a trust to be preserved."

The conference agenda included diverse topics such as affordable energy solutions, CO₂ capture technologies, and sustainable manufacturing practices. Discussions also covered aerospace innovations, AI applications for sustainability, and green building advancements. These sessions aimed to foster dialogue between science and society while encouraging innovative approaches to environmental challenges.

Zaki Nusseibeh highlighted that ICCAS 2025 serves as more than just a scientific forum; it is a platform for cross-disciplinary communication. The event encouraged asking difficult questions and imagining bold solutions while fostering collaboration across nations and generations. This approach aims to bridge ideas with action for a sustainable future.

The event attracted academics, industry professionals, environmental consultants, government entities, NGOs, and students. Special initiatives were introduced to boost student participation through free registration for selected abstracts and opportunities for publication in top-tier journals. Eight prestigious scientific journals collaborated with ICCAS-2025 to publish special issues featuring papers presented at the conference.

National and international companies like "The Nanocompany" from UAE and "Infitek" from China supported ICCAS 2025. Their involvement underscores their commitment to engaging with the scientific community on low-carbon actions and sustainable innovations.

Promoting Knowledge Exchange

ICCAS 2025 showcased cutting-edge research and technology while promoting knowledge exchange among participants. The conference reinforced the UAE’s role as a leader in climate-focused dialogue within the Gulf region and globally. It contributed significantly towards shaping a greener future through collaborative efforts.

The Chancellor urged organisers to establish ICCAS as UAEU’s signature conference held periodically. This would further cement its status as a pioneering platform for sustainable innovation in addressing climate challenges.
