UAEU Hosts The 19th International Conference On Application Of Information And Communication Technologies In October 2025
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) hosted the 19th International Conference on Application of Information and Communication Technologies, known as "IEEE-AICT 2025." This event took place from October 29th to 31st, 2025, at the Crescent Building on the university’s Al Ain campus. It brought together a distinguished group of global scholars, researchers, and innovators.
In his opening remarks, Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the UAE President and Chancellor of UAEU, highlighted the conference's role as a leading platform for exchanging knowledge. He emphasised the UAE’s commitment to transforming sectors through sustainable development and positive change. This is achieved by leveraging ambitious national strategies in artificial intelligence and digital government.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, discussed the UAE's progress in AI. Within eight years, the nation advanced from an experimental phase to being among the top five globally in AI. This was driven by a comprehensive national strategy launched in 2017.
Al Olama explained that this strategy consists of three phases: building infrastructure; adopting AI across sectors like energy and airports; and achieving global leadership by 2026. He stressed that the UAE’s AI vision aims to empower people rather than replace them with technology.
The conference's opening session focused on AI's role in guiding government and social development. A panel discussion titled "Artificial Intelligence and the Empowerment of Government Futures: From Vision to Global Leadership" explored how advanced technologies can transform national initiatives into impactful models.
The panel included Amal Abdulrahim from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment; Dr. Farida Al Hosani from GLIDE; and Dr. Rami Beiram from UAEU. They discussed mechanisms for accelerating technology adoption in government operations.
Scientific Advancements
A keynote speech by Prof. Steve Liu from Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence highlighted AI integration with future communication networks. His presentation titled "LLMs for NextG Communication Networks: Fundamentals, Key Techniques, and Future Directions" underscored key techniques for future infrastructure advancements.
This conference serves as a prestigious platform for experts to review recent findings in information and communication technologies. Sessions focus on using AI and emerging technologies to advance societal goals.
Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh also noted UAEU’s pride in its role as a "flagship university," supporting scientific development in the UAE. He described it as a bridge between knowledge and prosperity that fosters creativity and research while maintaining social responsibility values.
The event underscores the importance of multidisciplinary knowledge driven by innovation. The UAE aims to improve residents' quality of life by enabling productivity comparable to leading economies while positioning itself as an exporter of AI solutions.
