UAEREP Highlights The Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Rain Enhancement At ICADAA 2025

The UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) recently took part in the First International Conference on AI and Data Science Applications and Advances (ICADAA) at Emirates Aviation University, Dubai. This event gathered experts from academia and industry to explore how artificial intelligence and data science can tackle real-world issues across various sectors.

Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, President of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and Director-General of the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), highlighted the integration of meteorological science with emerging technologies. He stated, "Through the UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science, NCM strives to integrate meteorological science with emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and data-driven solutions, to address global water security challenges in alignment with the UAE’s climate resilience objectives."

UAEREP Discusses AI in Rain Enhancement

Alya Al Mazrouei, Director of UAEREP and Director of Research and Weather Enhancement Department at NCM, delivered a keynote speech at the conference. She stressed the role of AI and data-driven technologies in advancing rain enhancement research. Al Mazrouei shared UAEREP's achievements, infrastructure, projects, scientific contributions, partnerships, and outreach efforts.

Al Mazrouei explained that UAEREP's participation at ICADAA showcased how AI and data science are revolutionising rain enhancement research. She said, "UAEREP’s participation at ICADAA demonstrated how artificial intelligence and data science are transforming rain enhancement research. These technologies enable advanced forecasting, cloud microphysics modeling, and data-driven interventions that improve water security in arid and semi-arid regions such as the UAE."

UAEREP employs AI-driven forecasting techniques alongside machine learning algorithms to refine rainfall enhancement methods. The program also utilises advanced technologies like nanomaterials, unmanned aerial systems, and laser-based interventions. High-performance computing and big data analytics support these innovations to ensure precise targeting and optimised seeding operations.

The programme's initiatives aim to enhance rain enhancement capabilities while strengthening climate resilience globally. By collaborating with leading experts and institutions worldwide, UAEREP seeks to develop innovative approaches that support sustainable development. These efforts underscore NCM’s leadership in providing impactful solutions for water security.

Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development

UAEREP's projects focus on scalable solutions for regions facing severe water scarcity challenges due to climate change. By harnessing AI and data science, UAEREP is unlocking new possibilities for sustainable water management amid growing global water scarcity driven by climate change, population growth, and rising demand.

The conference served as a platform for sharing insights on leveraging technology to address pressing environmental challenges. It reinforced the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies into traditional meteorological practices to achieve sustainable outcomes.
