UAE Government Launches Young Government Leaders Programme To Empower Future Leaders

The UAE Government has introduced the Young Government Leaders Programme 2024, as part of its Annual Meetings. This initiative aims to spotlight young leaders' roles within the UAE. For the first time since 2017, promising young leaders will join government officials at these meetings. This experience will offer them insights into national strategies and projects, preparing them for future leadership roles and enabling their contribution to significant development changes.

With 45 young leaders from federal and local entities participating in its inaugural edition, the programme serves as a national platform to nurture strategic leaders. These leaders are expected to be proactive and responsible, ready to shape a better future for the UAE. The selection process was rigorous, ensuring that only high-potential candidates were chosen.

Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, highlighted that under President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's leadership and guidance from Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE is poised for future opportunities. This progress is driven by young government leaders' capabilities. Al Roumi stated that the program reflects the UAE's leadership model by focusing on developing impactful future leaders.

Al Roumi further explained: "This program provides young leaders with strategic insights into government priorities and plans. Their participation in shaping key transformations during the UAE Government’s Annual Meetings marks a significant step in their journey towards future leadership roles."

Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, reiterated the UAE leadership's belief in youth energy and potential. He shared his experiences from the UAE Astronaut Program, where he spent six months aboard the International Space Station. He discussed how these experiences helped him manage change, lead under pressure, design projects, build teams, integrate efforts, cooperate effectively, and utilise resources efficiently.

Al Neyadi emphasised: "Youth must seize available opportunities," noting that their participation in the program offers an exceptional experience to gain skills, understand decision-making models in key national platforms, and learn directly from top government leaders.

Strategic Projects and Cybersecurity

Saeed Al Eter, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategic Projects and Chairman of the UAE Government Media Office, stressed that youth empowerment is crucial for driving social, economic, and developmental progress in the nation. He cited examples like the successful global media campaign by the UAE Hope Probe team which enhanced the nation's reputation as a hub for economy and innovation.

In his keynote address on cybersecurity, Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti highlighted youth's vital role in navigating cyber threats. He outlined initiatives by the UAE Cybersecurity Council aimed at empowering youth through awareness programs like "Cyber Pulse" and startup support via "CYBER E71". He described youth as "true wealth," essential for building a secure digital future.

Interactive Learning Opportunities

The programme also featured interactive sessions such as ‘Meet an Inspiring Leader’. These sessions allowed young participants to engage with role models one-on-one to learn about overcoming leadership challenges. The Impactful Leaders Council hosted various sector leaders who shared strategic insights with young participants to help them acquire key leadership skills necessary for driving future success of the UAE Government.

The selection process prioritised candidates with vision and responsibility who demonstrated commitment to national interests along with strategic foresight. Leadership capabilities were assessed alongside innovation potential while data-driven decision-making skills were also considered important criteria.

This initiative underscores how empowering youth can strengthen communities while solidifying global standing through inspiring examples of leadership across sectors within this dynamic region.
