UAE Launches 'Plan To Action Majlis' To Boost Environmental Awareness
The UAE Year of Sustainability has introduced the "Plan to Action Majlis" series, aiming to enhance environmental awareness and sustainable practices through engaging activities and cultural education rooted in Emirati heritage. The first event, "Ghaf Tales," took place on 4th September at Majlis Mohammed Khalaf, Majalis Abu Dhabi.
Organised in collaboration with The Climate Tribe, a social enterprise focused on climate action, the event gathered children and families committed to sustainability. The session honoured the UAE’s national Ghaf tree, symbolising resilience and sustainability.

The event began with a poetry session led by Sultan Al Ameemi, a renowned writer and researcher. He highlighted Sheikh Zayed’s dedication to the Ghaf tree and recited poems from Emirati heritage that celebrate the tree. Participants then engaged in a guided poetry-writing workshop to express their appreciation for the Ghaf tree.
Following the poetry session, writer Fatima Al Hammadi conducted an immersive storytelling session. Families and children were also given seeds to encourage tree planting, emphasising the family’s role in preserving the heritage of the Ghaf tree.
Eisa Alsubousi, Project Lead of the Year of Sustainability, commented on fostering sustainable values: "The Year of Sustainability aims to encourage people to begin their sustainability journey through simple, actionable steps starting from their homes. One of our focus areas this year is to encourage the public to plant wisely, and the traditional Ghaf tree is vital in preserving the UAE’s natural biodiversity."
He added that the Plan to Action Majlis promotes inherited values of sustainability while raising awareness about native ecosystems. It unites the public in a shared sense of responsibility to protect the environment and inspires sustainable action as a lifelong commitment beyond this year.
Community Engagement
The Climate Tribe played a significant role in organising the event. Aysha Hareb Al Dhaheri, Community Impact Director of The Climate Tribe, stated: "Uniting our community for sustainable action sparks a powerful force for change. Together, we are creating a legacy of environmental stewardship that ensures a vibrant future for all."
The Plan to Action series will continue throughout the year with more events aimed at promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship among various communities in the UAE.
This initiative highlights how cultural heritage can be leveraged to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among different generations.
