UAE Team Emirates Eyes Historic Triple Win At Vuelta A España
UAE Team Emirates are gearing up for the Vuelta a Espana with a singular goal: making history. They aim to become only the second team ever to win the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and Vuelta a Espana in one season. Adam Yates and Joao Almeida lead a strong lineup, both coming off impressive performances at the Tour de France.
The 79th edition of "La Vuelta" promises to be challenging with its mountainous terrain. Starting in Lisbon, Portugal, the race will test riders over three weeks. Joao Almeida aims to improve on his top 10 finish from 2023, while Adam Yates returns after securing fourth place in 2021.

Adam Yates has an impressive Grand Tour record, including a podium finish at the Tour de France and six top 10 finishes. He will be joined by Joao Almeida, who is looking to build on his fourth-place finish at the Tour de France. The team also includes Grand Tour debutant Isaac Del Toro, who has made a significant impact in his first season.
Marc Soler and Brandon McNulty will provide crucial support for Yates and Almeida. Their combined strength is expected to bolster the team's chances of success. Adam Yates expressed his excitement, stating, "I’m extremely excited for the Vuelta. Of course, it will be difficult, but the course looks like it is suited to my riding style."
UAE Team Emirates will face tough competition in Spain. Defending champion Sepp Kuss leads a strong field despite recovering from an injury. Team Visma Lease-a-Bike features stars like Wout van Aert and young talent Cian Uijtdebroeks. Spaniard Mikel Landa of Soudal Quick-Step is another favourite aiming for a strong performance.
Landa recently finished fifth in the General Classification at the Tour de France and hopes to improve on last year's top 5 finish at the Vuelta. The race covers 21 stages and 3,265km of racing, starting with a Time Trial in Lisbon before moving into hilly stages better suited for puncheurs.
Record-Breaking Season
This season has been record-breaking for UAE Team Emirates. Adam Yates and Joao Almeida aim to complete a Grand Tour sweep and further cement their place in cycling history. The final two weeks of La Vuelta will feature nine mountainous stages where top General Classification riders will compete for the Maillot Rojo.
The team’s most memorable performances have come from these gruelling races. Adam Yates said, "We have a really strong team, and we want to make history! I’m very proud of the team’s performances so far this season."
The peloton starts in Lisbon with Stage 1 featuring a fierce Time Trial before transitioning into hilly stages that favour puncheurs. The race's outcome will likely be decided during these final weeks as riders battle for supremacy.
UAE Team Emirates are no strangers to Grand Tour racing's brutality. With their current form and determination, they are poised to make this season unforgettable by achieving their ambitious goals.
