UAE Aids Brazil's Flood-Affected Rio Grande Do Sul With Humanitarian Initiative

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched a humanitarian initiative to support the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul in response to recent floods. This effort is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Islamic Charitable Activities Department in Dubai, and Expo City Dubai. The initiative also includes participation from the ‘Day for Dubai’ volunteer program and members of the Brazilian community in the UAE.

The initiative aims to collect relief packages containing food supplies and essential items for children and women. Around 300 volunteers are participating at the Dubai Exhibition Centre in Expo City. These packages will be shipped to Brazil to aid those affected by the floods.

Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development Affairs and International Organisations, commented on the initiative. He stated, "This initiative reflects the deep-rooted strategic partnership between the UAE and Brazil, and highlights the UAE’s continuous efforts to provide rapid responses to natural disasters wherever they occur in the world."

In recent days, two aircraft carrying 200 tonnes of food and medical supplies, electric generators, and solar lighting equipment were dispatched to Brazil. Al Shamsi noted that launching this humanitarian campaign underscores the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide relief to those impacted by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul state.

Brazilian Government's Response

Sidney Leon Romeiro, Ambassador of Brazil to the UAE, expressed gratitude on behalf of his government. He stated, "On behalf of the Government of Brazil, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the government and people of the United Arab Emirates for their generous humanitarian donation to the State of Rio Grande do Sul."

Romeiro highlighted that this demonstration of empathy, initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan, comes at a crucial moment as floodwaters recede, revealing extensive devastation and severe hardships ahead. He added that the prompt support from the UAE underscores the strong friendship between both countries.

This gesture of kindness and solidarity will be remembered by the Brazilian people. The UAE’s swift response not only provides immediate relief but also strengthens bilateral relations between the two nations.
