UAE Recognised As Strategic Partner In Enhancing Global And Regional Food Security By FAO
Abdul Hakim Elwaer, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, praised the UAE for its strategic partnership in enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agricultural innovations. During his visit to the UAE, he highlighted the country's commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goals through its collaboration with the FAO.
Elwaer pointed out that the UAE significantly supports FAO initiatives by providing financial contributions and technical assistance for food security projects. He stressed the urgent need for substantial investments, reaching trillions of dollars, to bridge the gap in achieving these goals, especially in vulnerable regions.

The UAE plays a crucial role in international efforts to combat hunger and improve food security through strategic collaborations with the FAO. One notable project is in northeastern Nigeria, where Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives are vital in enhancing food security for over 58,000 people.
In Liberia, the UAE supports a project aimed at increasing resilience and sustainable income generation for rural women. This initiative involves 2,000 farmers across 24 farming groups in six counties. It introduces mobile farm units equipped with cold storage and solar energy for irrigation.
Elwaer emphasised engaging youth in agricultural innovation and sustainability efforts led by the UAE. These include developing vertical farms and implementing climate-smart agriculture practices to boost productivity and adapt to climate change.
The FAO is actively working to raise awareness about food security's importance through various programmes. These initiatives aim to enhance community understanding of food challenges and promote agricultural sustainability.
The UAE's exemplary partnership with the FAO underscores its dedication to supporting global food security initiatives. By investing in innovative projects and collaborating on strategic efforts, it continues to play a pivotal role in addressing pressing regional and global challenges.
