UAE Research Programme For Rain Enhancement Science Engages At AGU24 To Address Global Water Challenges

The UAE Research Programme for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) is set to participate in the AGU24, the American Geophysical Union's annual meeting from December 9 to 13, 2024, in Washington D.C. This event gathers experts in earth and space sciences globally to discuss climate change, innovative technologies, and collaborative research efforts shaping our planet's future.

Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director General of the National Center of Meteorology and President of the World Meteorological Organization, stated: "The UAEREP’s participation at AGU24 reflects the UAE’s unwavering commitment to pioneering innovative solutions for global water scarcity through advanced science and technology. By leveraging the knowledge shared at such global events, we aim to strengthen our network of scientists and researchers, driving progress in global water security and climate resilience."

UAEREP Participates in AGU24 Event

A key goal for UAEREP at AGU24 is promoting its 6th Cycle Solicitation Document. The event provides a platform to engage with scientists and experts in rain enhancement science. The programme aims to encourage high-quality proposals by highlighting strategic thrust areas and inviting innovative solutions for global water challenges.

Alya Al Mazroui, Director of UAEREP, said: "At AGU24, the UAEREP aims to showcase its pioneering achievements in rain enhancement research while promoting the 6th Cycle Solicitation Document to engage global experts and attract high-quality proposals that align with its strategic priorities. By fostering collaborations with leading academic, industry, and government institutions, the UAEREP continues to advance its mission of enhancing water security through innovative research. These efforts will expand the programme’s global reach, increase its impact, and reinforce its role in addressing water scarcity, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions."

The UAEREP will hold a session titled "Exploring the Interplay of Weather Modification and Climate Intervention: Modeling, Observations, and Field Campaigns" on December 9-10. This session will delve into weather modification techniques' complexities and uncertainties related to aerosol-cloud interactions. It will also explore their implications for climate impacts.

Convened by Robert Wood from the University of Washington along with Alya Al Mazroui from UAEREP, Youssef Wehbe from UAEREP, and Isabelle Steinke from Delft University of Technology, this session will feature 21 abstracts from over 80 authors representing more than 40 leading entities like NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and Columbia University.

Engaging Global Experts

The UAEREP pavilion at AGU24 will welcome researchers and attendees. It will highlight how the programme aligns with UAE's vision for bridging science with society. The pavilion aims to pioneer methods enhancing water security while contributing globally to mitigate environmental threats.

The programme's delegates will brief visitors on new award cycles focusing on five main areas: Optimized Seeding Materials, Novel Cloud Formation Systems, Autonomous Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Limited-Area Climate Interventions, and Advanced Models.

Fostering Collaborations

UAEREP plans strategic engagements with top institutions in atmospheric sciences like NOAA and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. These meetings aim to foster collaborations advancing rain enhancement science while addressing global water security challenges.

Through a best-in-class approach translating science into deployable technology, UAEREP is transforming how critical water challenges are addressed. This commitment mirrors UAE's vision for advancing water security aligning with sustainability goals locally and internationally.
