UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the Eid Al-Adha prayer at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Accompanying him were several prominent figures, including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, and H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
After the prayer, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed exchanged Eid greetings with other worshippers. He also joined the sheikhs in reciting Al-Fatihah for the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, seeking mercy and a place in Paradise for him.
The Eid sermon was delivered by Dr. Khalifa Al Dhaheri, Chancellor of Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities. Titled ‘Our Eid is Devotion,’ it emphasised the importance of devotion as both a spiritual and national principle. Dr. Al Dhaheri explored its meaning and significance during Eid and Hajj.
Dr. Al Dhaheri explained that true devotion is characterised by purity of intention and integrity of action. The highest form is devotion to God, which strengthens spiritual closeness and opens the path to divine acceptance.
Dr. Al Dhaheri highlighted that one of the noblest forms of devotion is towards one's country. True patriots serve their homeland faithfully, protect its reputation, uphold its laws, preserve its heritage, and strive for its prosperity while safeguarding its achievements.
He further elaborated that devotion should extend to family and community relationships. Commitment to family fosters a cohesive society where care and responsibility are shared among members.
Eid as a Celebration of Devotion
The sermon concluded with an encouragement for worshippers to make Eid a celebration of devotion to faith, nation, and each other. Dr. Al Dhaheri stated that devotion brings acceptance in worship, loyalty to the country, compassion within families, and excellence in work.
