UAE's Pragmatic And Balanced Policy Sets A Regional Example, Says Anwar Gargash
Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, highlighted the global "uncertainty" in technology, economy, and politics during a keynote at the Arab Media Summit 2025. The session titled ‘Repercussions of Disorder and Challenges of Stability’ was attended by notable figures including H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Dr. Gargash emphasised the UAE's role in addressing these uncertainties through its successful model focused on security, stability, prosperity, education, and modern technology. He noted that the UAE's pragmatic policies offer a positive message both regionally and globally. The dialogue was moderated by Taher Barakah from Al Arabiya news channel.
Dr. Gargash pointed out the collapse of ideologies in the Arab world over the past three years since events in Gaza. He stressed that many still cling to failed ideologies, which have fostered sectarianism and weakened state roles. He urged an end to this "era of ideology," advocating for pragmatism and focus on improving living standards and economic stability.
The UAE's foreign policy is based on national decisions reflecting sovereignty, Dr. Gargash stated. He criticised using normalisation with Israel as a political tool to obscure internal failures rather than addressing economic challenges realistically. Despite establishing diplomatic ties with Israel, he confirmed UAE's unwavering support for Palestine.
He highlighted significant changes within the Arab world, noting Lebanon and Syria as examples of positive change through international cooperation. Dr. Gargash stressed supporting these nations' recovery as it contributes positively to the Arab region's stability.
The UAE embraces diverse Arab nationalities contributing to its progress, showcasing regional potential within a supportive environment. Dr. Gargash noted their creativity reflects broader regional capabilities.
Media Sector at a Crossroads
Dr. Gargash expressed concern over a malicious media campaign against the UAE but stated that achievements speak for themselves globally. He remarked that credible media would find a pioneering model in UAE's economy, society, politics, technology, and tourism sectors.
The media sector faces uncertainty due to rapid AI advancements, Dr. Gargash noted. Adapting to these changes will determine which institutions thrive or disappear.
Investment in Technology
The UAE prioritises investing in technology as an investment in the future, Dr. Gargash affirmed. Significant agreements have been made with countries like the United States and France to advance this field.
He underscored strengthening nation-state concepts across several countries while criticising unrealistic leadership by militias or dual armies within a state. Such situations lead to stagnation; slogans have trapped many Arab nations in deteriorating conditions.
Dr. Gargash concluded by stating that those who view the UAE objectively will see its success story as a positive narrative against negative campaigns from social media militias or unscrupulous media outlets.
