UAE Strengthens Ties At The 17th Economic Cooperation Organisation Summit In Azerbaijan

Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, represented the UAE at the 17th Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan. This participation was on behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The invitation from Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev highlights the strong ties between the UAE and Azerbaijan.

The summit brought together several regional leaders, including President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye. Other notable attendees were President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, and President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan. Leaders from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan also participated.

During the summit, Dr. Al Jaber engaged in a bilateral meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. They discussed recent developments in their countries' relations and explored new collaborative opportunities in energy sectors. Renewable energy and infrastructure were key areas of focus during their discussions.

Dr. Al Jaber also met Rashid Meredov, Turkmenistan's Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Their talks centred on enhancing cooperation between the UAE and Turkmenistan in sectors deemed mutually beneficial.

The Economic Cooperation Organisation is a regional intergovernmental body with member states including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The organisation aims to bolster economic collaboration among its members by focusing on trade, energy, transportation, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

The UAE's involvement in this summit underscores its commitment to strengthening ties with ECO member states. By participating actively in such forums, the UAE seeks to enhance regional cooperation across various sectors.
