UAE And Oman Forge Ahead With Enhanced Educational Collaboration And Innovation

Dr. Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, the UAE's Minister of Education, recently held a significant meeting with Prof. Rahma Al Mahrooqi, Oman's Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, at the Ministry of Education's headquarters in Abu Dhabi. This meeting was a part of the Omani delegation's official visit to the UAE on the 5th and 6th of March, aiming to foster stronger cooperation between the two nations in the educational sector.

The discussions during this meeting were comprehensive, covering a range of topics aimed at enhancing educational practices and bilateral cooperation. Dr. Al Falasi took this opportunity to share insights into the UAE's strategies for regulating and elevating the quality of higher education through international-standard evaluation systems. He also highlighted the UAE's achievements in innovation and scientific research and introduced the new ‘University Certificates Recognition’ system.

Strengthening UAE-Oman Educational Ties

One of the key outcomes of this visit was the planning of joint initiatives, including the establishment of the Omani Emirati Knowledge Dialogue Forum. This initiative underscores the deep-rooted historical, social, and cultural ties between the UAE and Oman, as noted by Dr. Al Falasi. He emphasized that such visits are pivotal in reaffirming both countries' commitment to exchanging expertise and enhancing their educational systems for a prosperous future.

The delegation's agenda was packed with visits to several key educational and innovation centers in the UAE. On the first day, they toured Khalifa University to observe higher education practices and visited Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to gain insights into renewable energy initiatives. The exploration of public-private partnership mechanisms in innovation and scientific research was also on their schedule.

The following day included visits to the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET) to review vocational institution regulations in the Emirate. The delegation also visited the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation in Dubai, where they learned about cultivating innovation within the government sector through the Government Accelerators initiative.

In a significant move earlier in 2023, during an official visit to Oman by the UAE Ministry of Education, a cooperation agreement was signed with its Omani counterpart. This agreement aims to enhance joint work and exchange experiences in the educational field, marking a milestone in UAE-Oman educational collaboration.

The meeting saw participation from several senior officials from both sides. The UAE delegation included key figures from MoE, while Oman’s delegation was led by Dr. Ahmed bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Ambassador of Oman to the UAE, accompanied by senior officials from the Omani Ministry and presidents of Oman-based universities.

This series of meetings and visits highlights a concerted effort by both nations to leverage their strong relations towards enhancing educational standards and fostering innovation for sustainable development.
