The UAE Railway Programme is crucial for the future of the transport sector, according to Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. It is expected to generate economic opportunities and employment within the railway and related sectors.

During the Global Rail Transport Infrastructure Exhibition and Conference - Global Rail 2024, Al Mazrouei spoke with Emirates News Agency (WAM) about the UAE's transport sector's role in boosting intra-trade and cargo movement. The Etihad Rail Project is seeing consistent growth in its operations concerning cargo volume and service quality for various companies. The passenger transport phase will start at the end of 2025, connecting all emirates and key tourist destinations nationwide. This development is expected to enhance connectivity across the country significantly.

Al Mazrouei highlighted that the advanced transport system has strengthened the UAE's competitive edge in this essential sector. The Hafeet Rail Network project will link the UAE with Oman, creating the fastest railway connection between these nations. Banks are playing a significant role in financing this strategic project.

Al Mazrouei expressed optimism about connecting with other Gulf Cooperation Council countries through this project. "This project is based on promising economic foundations, and we look forward to connecting with other Gulf Cooperation Council countries to enhance prosperity, development, and growth," he said.

The UAE Railway Programme not only aims to improve domestic connectivity but also seeks to strengthen regional ties. By establishing efficient rail links with neighbouring countries, it hopes to foster economic growth and development across the region.

The comprehensive approach of integrating various transport modes underlines the UAE's commitment to sustainable development. As these projects progress, they are anticipated to bring substantial benefits in terms of trade facilitation and job creation.
