UAE Recognised As A Role Model For Empowering People Of Determination At World Congress On Rehabilitation 2024
William Chan Hei Lung, the General Secretary of Rehabilitation Alliance Hong Kong, has praised the UAE for its exemplary role in empowering and integrating People of Determination into society. Speaking at the World Congress on Rehabilitation (WCR) 2024, he acknowledged the UAE's extensive experience in supporting this group, attributing it to the country's consistent efforts over many years.
The WCR 2024 is being held in Abu Dhabi under the theme "Work and Employment." It aims to tackle global challenges faced by People of Determination in the job market and raise awareness about their rights and abilities. The congress is taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) until 25th September, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO).

Organised by ZHO in collaboration with RI Global and the International Social Security Association (ISSA), this congress is a pioneering event in the Middle East. It draws over 500 participants from more than 70 countries, including leading experts, academics, and researchers in rehabilitation and healthcare. This diverse gathering provides a platform for exchanging knowledge and best practices globally.
Lung emphasised that the WCR serves as an essential international forum for sharing insights with experts worldwide. He pointed out that focusing on promoting employment for People of Determination is vital for fostering inclusivity and equality. Many participants are presenting successful initiatives and strategies aimed at empowering People of Determination within their communities.
Lung suggested that governments worldwide could adapt these successful approaches to enhance local policies concerning People of Determination. By doing so, they can improve the rights and well-being of this group. The congress highlights various initiatives that have proven effective in different regions, offering valuable lessons for global adaptation.
The event underscores the importance of addressing employment challenges faced by People of Determination.
