UAE Minister Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Calls For Peace And Aid In Sudan At Djibouti Summit

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, attended the Mediators Planning Retreat on Sudan in Djibouti. The event saw participation from 32 countries and various regional and international organisations. Discussions centred on global initiatives and efforts to foster peace in Sudan and develop a unified vision.

In his opening speech, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan emphasised the urgent need to halt violence and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery. He stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to find effective solutions for Sudan's ongoing challenges.

UAE Calls for Peace in Sudan

The UAE Minister of State highlighted the critical situation facing the Sudanese people, including a worsening humanitarian crisis and the looming threat of famine. He called for increased diplomatic and humanitarian efforts from the international community to address these issues.

Sheikh Shakhboot outlined the UAE's tangible steps to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and neighbouring countries. He noted that since April 2023, the UAE has provided US$245 million in aid. Additionally, two field hospitals were established in Chad to support displaced Sudanese refugees.

The UAE’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance was underscored by Sheikh Shakhboot. He highlighted the leadership's dedication to offering relief aid to those affected by the conflict.

Call for Peaceful Resolution

Sheikh Shakhboot reiterated that there is no military solution to the conflict. He urged all parties involved to work towards a peaceful resolution through dialogue. The UAE's stance calls for an immediate ceasefire and an end to violence as primary demands.
